Ideals Realization and Reality Optimization:An Analysis on Origin and Evolution of Doctoral Students Employment Diversification
Diversification of doctoral students employment is not entirely determined by the demand of the job market, the real origin over the phenomena is diversified career intention. In the process of studying, the initial career intention evolved to two types:"ideals realization"and"reality optimization".Ultimately, only about one fifth of doctoral students pursue academic careers as their ideals and successfully realize it,meanwhile there are also about one sixth of doctoral students with non-academic career ideals eventually changed ideals and optimized to academic careers. At the same time, similar phenomena also occurred in non-academic careers market.Analyzing these phenomena by artificial neural network and testing the robustness via logistic regression, the study found that although the group of ideals realization made career plans based on their own situation and achieved their ideals through hard work, the group of reality optimization was not fall into passive and helpless choice, instead of making rational adjustment according to own advantages and learning situation. The doctoral students employment diversification is essentially an active choice and adaptive behavior rather than completely passive acceptance. Therefore, graduate school should adhere to the student-centered principle, explore classified teaching mode, and assist students to clarify comparative advantages,so achieving better job-matching and human resource allocation.
