Determination of ash and moisture content of Moxa floss with different storage years and processing ratios
Objective To provide data support for the control of Moxa floss quality standards by determining the ash and moisture content of Moxa floss with different processing ratios, storage years, and processing techniques. Methods The determination of ash content and moisture in Moxa floss was conducted in accordance with the methods described in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The ash content was determined following General Rule 2302,which includes total ash and acid-insoluble ash, while the moisture content was assessed using the toluene method outlined in General Rule 0832.Results The total ash content of machine-made Moxa floss was(7.54±1.89)%,and the acid-insoluble ash content was(0.07±0.02)%.The total ash content of laboratory-made Moxa floss was(8.83±1.31)%,and the acid-insoluble ash content was(0.08±0.01)%.Compared to the machine-made 30%Moxa floss, there was no statistically significant difference in total ash and acid-insoluble ash content between the laboratory-made 33%Moxa floss(P>0.05).Multivariate linear regression analysis indicated a correlation between the processing ratio and total ash content(P<0.05).The moisture content of 18 Moxa floss samples was determined, showing a relatively stable moisture content, with the highest and lowest values being 3.0%and 8.0%,respectively.Conclusion The methods for determining the total ash,acid-insoluble ash,and moisture content in Moxa floss are stable and feasible;higher processing ratios result in lower ash content values in Moxa floss.
