Experimental study on disintegration characteristics of red-bed mudstone in northwestern China
With regard to red-bed mudstone in northwestern China,a self-designed free immersion disintegration device is used to conduct free water immersion tests on red-bed mudstone samples with different masses. The water absorption process of the samples is considered in the tests, and the water absorption rate of the samples is used as a compensation for the disintegration test results. The disintegration rate and disintegration speed of red-bed mudstone samples with different masses over time are studied in this paper. The results show that the red-bed mudstone has a low content of expansive minerals, with a disintegration rate of 45%to 75%within the first 30%of the disintegration time, and 68%to 90%within the first 50%of the disintegration time. The total disintegration time T and mass of sample m follow the functional relationship T =a*(1-e-b*m).As the mass of samples increases, the disintegration rate increases significantly within the first 50%of the disintegration time.
