Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer Magnetic Resonance Imaging(CEST MRI)is an emerging imaging technique that utilizes selective radio frequency saturation pulses. This is achieved through the exchange of saturated protons between the compound of interest and surrounding water protons, resulting in a decrease in the magnetic resonance signal of water, thus indirectly measuring the concentration of specific compounds in biological systems.CEST MRI enables high-resolution spatial and temporal imaging of specific biomolecules and physiological parameters(such as pH)within the body. This paper introduces the basic principles of CEST MRI technology, explores its applications in disease imaging and biological analysis, and summarizes the prospects and outstanding challenges in its development. It also proposes relevant strategies to address these issues. The advancement and optimization of CEST contrast agents will further facilitate the clinical translation of CEST MRI technology.
