A survey of vaccine hesitancy and its influencing factors among parents in Dongguan city in 2019
Objective To determine the level of vaccine hesitancy and its influencing factors among parents of children in Dongguan city. Methods We developed a vaccine hesitancy scale for parents and used a stratified sampling method to recruit parents from vaccination clinics in 8 townships of Dongguan for the survey. We calculated vaccine hesitancy scores and identified factors influencing hesitancy. Results Among the 750 parents who completed the survey, vaccine hesitancy scores ranged from 0 to 70 points, with an average score of 30.09±13.03 points, and with 6.67%of subjects having scores ≥50 points.Logistic regression analysis showed that vaccine hesitancy scores ≥50 points were least common among subjects with high levels of knowledge about hepatitis B and hepatitis B vaccine(OR=0.43,95%CI:0.24-0.77).Conclusions The level of vaccine hesitancy was low among children's parents in the surveyed area.It is necessary to strengthen publicity of vaccine-related knowledge among parents to further reduce vaccine hesitancy.
