Pneumococcal vaccine coverage and factors influencing coverage among ≤5-year-old children at high risk for pneumococcal disease in a hospital in Henan province in 2023
Objective To analyze coverage of pneumococcal vaccine and factors influencing coverage among children at high risk for pneumococcal disease(PD).Methods We used a convenience sampling method to select children≤5 years of age at high risk for PD who visited a hospital of Henan province in September-October 2023.We conducted a questionnaire-based survey to determine coverage of pneumococcal vaccine and factors influencing coverage. Results Coverage with at least 1 dose of pneumococcal vaccine was 37.44%(82/219).Full-series 13-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine coverage was 12.79%(28/219),and was 3.41%(3/88)among<2-year-olds and 19.08%(25/131)among 2-5-year-olds.Logistic regression analysis showed that coverage with at least 1 dose of pneumococcal vaccine was low among subjects who were non-local residents, who had non-respiratory illnesses, and whose parents did not know about self-paid vaccines[OR(95%CI):0.52(0.29-0.96),0.51(0.26-1.00),0.34(0.16-0.76)].Coverage was high among subjects with a high average family income[OR(95%CI):2.47(1.28-4.77)].Conclusions Pneumococcal vaccine coverage was low among children at high risk for PD.We should take relevant countermeasures to improve pneumococcal vaccination of children at high risk for PD.
