A meta-analysis of tetanus antibody levels among healthy populations in China
Objective To analyze tetanus antibody levels in healthy populations in China. Methods We retrieved research studies on tetanus antibody levels in healthy Chinese populations published from 2000 to 2023 from Chinese and English language databases. We conducted meta-analyses of included studies to estimate pooled tetanus IgG antibody positive(≥0.01IU/mL)rates and protective(≥0.1IU/mL)rates.Results A total of 34 studies were included, involving 15 provinces of China, with a total sample size of 30 741 subjects.Meta-analysis showed that pooled positivity and protection rates in healthy Chinese populations were 80.81%(95%CI:72.54%-87.90%)and 55.15%(95%CI:44.32%-65.74%),respectively.Pooled positivity rates for<1-,1-2-,3-4-,5-6-,7-14-,15-19-,20-39-,and ≥40-year-olds were 98.86%;98.67%,98.15%,95.86%,91.22%,86.08%,82.96%,and 48.73%(x2=38.64,P<0.001),with pooled protection rates being 89.65%,92.60%,90.20%,87.58%,71.54%,43.18%,23.68%,and 12.56%(x2=259.03,P<0.001).Conclusions The tetanus antibody level was generally high in healthy populations in China and decreased with increasing age.We suggest improving tetanus immunization strategies for Chinese populations.
