The epidemic status of mpox and progress towards mpox vaccine research:a literature review
Mpox(formerly known as monkeypox)has spread widely in some non-endemic areas since May 2022,leading to considerable interest and attention.Since June 2023,many provinces in China reported mpox cases, indicating an increasing risk for local transmission and infection.Vaccination is one of the most important measures for epidemic prevention and control. The World Health Organization recommends three vaccines for mpox prevention in populations at high risk for monkeypox virus infection:ACAM2000,MVA-BN,and LC16.Many vaccines are under development, including attenuated live vaccines,mRNA vaccines,DNA vaccines, and recombinant subunit vaccines. In this article,we provide an overview of the status of mpox epidemics and progress in mpox vaccine research to provide reference for mpox prevention and control strategies and vaccine development in China.
