Use of an indirect cohort design for evaluation of vaccine effectiveness
Post-marketing vaccine effectiveness(VE)evaluation is an epidemiological assessment of vaccinations to prevent and control diseases in the real world. The indirect cohort design(ICD)is a study design that uses individual-level vaccination history data and infecting pathogen serotypes of patients with vaccine-targeted diseases to calculate VE.An ICD can effectively reduce sample size, lower study cost, and retain high credibility. In this article,we review principles,post-marketing VE evaluations, and advantages and limitations of ICD,aiming to help researchers better understand and conduct ICD VE evaluations.
