Quality of surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis cases in China,2017-2022
Objective To evaluate the quality of surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis(AFP)cases and polio-free status in China. Methods We obtained data on AFP cases under 15 years of age during 2017-2022 from the Chinese AFP Case Reporting Management System and analyzed performance indicators for the sensitivity and timeliness of AFP surveillance. Results The average annual incidence per 100 000 population of reported non-polio AFP cases under 15 years of age was 2.08(a total of 29 116 cases)during 2017-2022 in China, with incidences by year ranging from 1.79 to 2.33.Overall rates for timely AFP case investigation and for adequate stool specimen collection were 99.34%and 92.12%,respectively,ranging 98.79%to 99.74%and 91.48%to 92.74%by year.Among 28 765 AFP cases with stool specimen detection,0.55%(157 cases)were positive to poliovirus and 5.19%(1 492 cases)were positive to non-polio enterovirus.Poliovirus-positive cases included 39,70,and 36 cases of type Ⅰ,Ⅲ,and type Ⅰ+Ⅲvaccine-like strains;3 cases of type Ⅲ vaccine high-variant poliovirus strains;and 2,1,and 6 cases of type Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ vaccine-derived poliovirus strains. No wild poliovirus was found. Conclusion From 2017 to 2022,AFP surveillance was high-quality in China, maintaining polio-free status.
