Investigation and analysison the health communication needs in rural areas of Shandong province
Objective To investigate and analyze the status and needs of health communication among residents in rural areas of Shandong,and to provide suggestions for carrying out health communication purposefully in the fu-ture.Methods Using multi-stage stratified group random sampling method,2826 rural residents aged 15 years or above in 10 counties(cities or districts)in Shandong Province were selected according to their geographical distribution and econom-ic development characteristics for an indoor questionnaire survey between September and November in 2022.Descriptive sta-tistics were used to report the available content,location and channels on health knowledge of respondents,and actively par-ticipating in health communication activities and exposing to health short videos with different characteristics was compared by chi-square test.Results 92.0%of the rural residents said that they had promoted health knowledge in their village,and the content of the promotion was mainly about infectious diseases(70.6%),chronic diseases(68.2%)and traditional Chinese medicine(43.3%).The top three health knowledge that residents hoped to obtain were chronic diseases(60.1%),infectious diseases(58.8%)and traditional Chinese medicine(36.9%).The main ways for residents to ob-tain health knowledge were leaflets/brochures(54.2%),health columns/public service advertisements on TV(46.0%)and bulletin boards/wall newspapers(32.9%).The top three ways for residents to obtain health knowledge hopefully were folds/brochures(45.4%),TV health programs/public service advertisements(39.4%)and talking with doctors(35.2%).71.3%of the residents said they had actively participated in health communication activities,and 81.2%of the residents said they had beenexposed to health short videos.Conclusion The main channels for rural residents to acquire-healthknowledge in Shandong province are traditional media(such as TV,radio,newspapers),and new media hasbecome an important channel for health communication.The next step should be to carry out health communication activities combi-ning traditional media and new media according to the different needs of rural residents.
