Study on the correlation between illness perception and quality of life in patients with inflammatory bowel dis-ease
Objective To describe the current situation of illness perception and quality of life in patients with in-flammatory bowel disease(IBD),and to explore the correlation between illness perception and quality of life. Methods The current study was a cross-sectional study.A total of 224 patients with inflammatory bowel disease in China were selected as the study subjects by convenience sampling method.A self-designed questionnaire,Revised Illness Perception Question-naire(IPQ-R)and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire(IBDQ)were used to investigate. Finally, multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the correlation between illness perception and quality of life. Results The scores of seven subscales of IPQ-R ranged from 3.12 to 3.64.The total score of IBDQ was(168.83±36.72).The scores of positive perception(personal control, treatment control and coherence)were positively correlated with the score of IBDQ(P<0.05),while negative perception(duration of IBD,cyclical symptoms, consequences, emotional representations)scores were negatively correlated with the score of IBDQ(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression results showed that after adjusting for covariates, dimensions of treatment control(β=10.467,95%CI:1.956-18.979,P<0.05)and emotional repre-sentations(β=-16.301,95%CI:-22.388--10.215,P<0.001)still had influence on IBDQ.Conclusion Given the significant association between illness perception and quality of life, understanding and tailoring the patient's perspective and perception of the disease may be helpful in targeting treatment and management strategies and psychological support.
