Analysis of quality of life and its influencing factors among boarding students aged 14-18 years old in high schools in Shandong Province
Objective To understand the quality of life and its influencing factors among boarding studentsin high schools in Shandong Province,and to provide support for improving the quality of life of boarding students in high schools.Methods The data were obtained from Chinese Database of Youth Health(DYH)in 2020-2021 Survey.The in-formation of 6922 students aged 14-18 years old inhigh schoolswere obtained and the Quality of Life Scale for Children and Youth(QLSCA)was used to evaluate their quality of life.A multiple linear regression model was applied to analyze the fac-tors associated with quality of life.Results Among 6922 high school students,4920(71.08%)were boarding students and 2002(28.92%)were non-boarding students.The total scores of peer relationship,teacher-student relationship,learn-ing ability and attitude,self-concept,negative emotion,attitude towards homework,life opportunistic,activity opportunis-tic,motor ability,self-satisfaction and quality of life were lower in boarding high school students than those in non-boarding students,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the top 3 factors associated with the degree of psychosocial functioning were sleep duration(β=0.18),parental relationship(β=0.15)and family economic conditions(β=0.08).The top 3 factors associated with the degree of physical mental health functioning were sleep duration(β=0.15),parental relationship(β=0.11)and whether the student was an only child(β=-0.02).The top 3 factors associated with the degree of life environment function were parental relationship(β=0.19),family economic conditions(β=-0.12),sleep duration(β=0.11)and gender(β=0.11).The top 3 fac-tors associated with the degree of satisfaction with quality of life were parental relationship(β=0.27),sleep duration(β=0.17),family economic conditions(β=0.08)and gender(β=-0.08).The top 3 factors associated with total quality of life score were parental relationship(β=0.22),sleep duration(β=0.21)and household economic conditions(β=0.08).Conclusion Gender,place of residence,whether one child or not,parents'education level,family economic conditions,sleep duration and parents'relationship are the main factors associated with the quality of life of boarding studen-tsin high schools.Their quality of life is low and targeted measures should be taken to improve it.
