Application of GAMLSS in growth curve construction for children aged 10-13 in Xinjiang Uygur Autono-mous Region
Objective To determine the percentile reference values and growth curves of children's physical exam-ination indicators in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and to provide a reference basis for the evaluation of children's growth and development. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 2327 children by using stratified random-ized cluster sampling method and physical measurements.Generalized additive models(GAMLSS)based on location, scale and shape were used to construct growth curves of different physique indexes.Childhood obesity was estimated by setting dif-ferent thresholds(BMI>P95,TMI>P95,waist circumference>P90,and waist-to-height ratio≥ 0.5).BMI and waist circumference cut-off values were compared to the National Obesity Screening Standards for School-Age Children and Adoles-cents.Results The results of height, weight, and hip circumference of boys and girls increased with age while TMI and waist height ratio decreased with age.The obesity detection rates of BMI,TMI,waist circumference and waist height ratio in children aged 10-13 years old were 7.8%,7.2%,12.4%and 16.9%for boys, and 7.2%,6.7%,11.5%and 8.8%for girls. For boys, the threshold value of BMI obesity was higher than national screening standard at the age of 10,lower than national screening standard at the age of 11-13,and the critical value of waist obesity was higher than national screening standard. For girls, the threshold value of BMI obesity was lower than national screening standard, the critical val-ue of waist obesity was higher than national screening standards at the age of 10-12,and lower than national screening standard at the age of 13.Conclusion The critical value of waist circumference in school-age children in partial areas of Xinjiang is higher than the national standard,It is recommended to concentrate on waist circumference for prevention and management of childhood obesity.
