The relationship of perceived stress and capability of well-being among graduate students:a mediating role of mental health
Objective To investigate the effect of perceived stress on capability of well-being among graduate students,as well as the mediating effect of mental health and the moderating effect of social support. Methods The Percep-tual Stress Scale(CPSS),Investigating Choice Experiments Capability measure for Adults(ICECAP-A),General Health Questionnaire(GHQ-20),and Social Support Scale(PSSS)were administered among 371 graduate students.Non-para-metric percentile Bootstrap method was used for statistical analysis. Results A total of 371 questionnaires were allocated, and 364 valid questionnaires were recovered with an effective recovery rate of 98.11%.The mean scores of perceived pres-sure,mental health, social support and capability of well-being were(25.62±8.80),(6.53±4.05),(60.80± 12.04)and(0.80±0.15),respectively.Perceived pressure was significantly negatively correlated with capability of well-being(r=-0.599,P<0.01).Mental health played a partially mediating role between perceived stress and capability of well-being,with a mediating effect value of-0.004(40.00%).Social support played a moderating role among perceived stress, mental health and capability of well-being.The relationship between perceived stress and capability of well-being(β=0.0002,P<0.001)and the first stage(β=-0.004,P=0.010)of the mediation effect were regulated by social support. Conclusion The effect of perceived pressure on capability of well-being among graduate students was mediated by mental health, which was further moderated by social support.
