Objective To analyze the association among personality traits, social support and depression in medi-cal students, and to establish depression prediction model. Methods In October 2022,a cluster sampling method was used to select 522 freshmen in different majors from a medical university. The participants were surveyed using the Eysenck Per-sonality Questionnaire,Perceived Social Support Scale, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale.Association analysis, systematic cluster analysis and decision tree analysis were used to analyze the association strength and clustering distance of each dimension of the scales, clustering distance of association rules among all dimen-sions,and the decision order. Results The correlations between high levels of social support in the three dimensions and non-depressionwas highest, with the lift of 1.24.The correlations between high levels of family support and no depression were strongest, with the support of 0.49.The correlations between medium family support in neurotic high level and depres-sive symptoms was highest, with the lift of 2.26.The correlations between neuroticism high level and depressive symptoms was closest, with the support of 0.209.The high level of social support was closely related to the middle level of personality traits, while other social support levels were closely related to other personality trait levels. The prediction model included family support, friend support and neuroticism.Family support was the most important factor to determine depression, and the other two factors also played an important role, the prediction accuracy of the model was 88.5%by the confounding ma-trix method. Conclusion The influence of social support and personality traits on medical students'depression is regular, and social support is more important than personality traits.High social support and stable personality traits are important con-ditions to stay away from depression.
