A study on the relationship between dietary factors, eating window and sleep quality among college students
Objective To explore the influence of dietary nutrition and eating window on sleep among college students. Methods Cluster random sampling method was used to select 979 students from each class of a medical college in Wuhan City for questionnaire survey.Self-made eating behavior and three-factor eating questionnaire were used to investigate the dietary nutrition status of college students.Data of sleep were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between eating behavior and sleep quality. Results A total of 979 subjects were included in the survey, and 82.53%(808)of them had good sleep quality, and 17.47%(171)had poor sleep quality. In logistic regression analysis, eating eggs 4-6 times per week(OR=0.441,95%CI:0.224-0.869)and fruits 4-6 times per week(OR=0.418,95%CI:0.226-0.773)were protective factors for sleep quality.Drinking sug-ar-sweetened beverages 4-6 times per week(OR=2.328,95%CI:1.350-4.014)and drinking sugar-sweetened bever-ages daily(OR=3.912,95%CI:1.907-8.027)and eating window>12 h(OR=3.367,95%CI:1.204-9.414)was a risk factor for sleep quality. Conclusion Some college students have poor sleep quality. The dietary structure of col-lege students affects sleep quality to a certain extent, and health education on dietary nutrition could be strengthened to im-prove sleep quality.
