The determinants of myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents based on qualitative analysis
Objective To determine the influencing factors affecting the prevention and control of children and ado-lescents based on family level,and to formulate myopia prevention and control interventions methods and policy making for children and adolescents.Methods From April to December 2023,120 parents who participated in the survey of myopia pre-vention and control of children and adolescents in some provinces and cities were selected by non-probability sampling method to conduct focus group interviews.Based on the theory of social ecology,Nvivo 12.0 thematic framework analysis was used to encode and analyze the qualitative data.Results The results showed that limiting the use of electronic products,spending more outdoor activities,regularly checking eyesight,actively carrying out relevant health education in schools,and active publicity in the community were contributing factors to prevent the development of myopia in children and adolescents.The main obstacles were the time constraints of parents,children and adolescents,the weak awareness of parents'vision care behaviors,the single form of myopia prevention and control activities carried out in schools,and the failure implementation of policy in schools.Conclusion Parents'time concept,weak awareness of visual health care behavior,single form of myopia prevention and control activities at the school level,and the implementation of policies such as visual screening system are the influencing factors for preventing the occurrence and development of myopia in children and adolescents.Therefore,carrying out health ed-ucation,promoting diversified myopia prevention and control activities,and implementing visual screening system are useful to prevent the occurrence and development of myopia in children and adolescents.
