Objective To understand the work status and ability improvement needs among professional techni-cians in provincial health education institutions in China,and to provide reference basis for carrying out professional training of provincial health education in the future.Methods A questionnaire survey was carried out to investigate the basic situa-tion of all professional technicians in provincial health education institutions and their professional training needs in the nine major areas of health education.x2 test was used to compare the work status and ability improvement needs among professional technicians with different characteristics.Results In the past three years,the top three participated work areas of profes-sional technicians in provincial health education institutions mainly were"communication","project management"and"planning",with participation rates of 68.9%,44.7%and 44.5%,respectively.The participation rate of"scientific research"was 28.0%.In the past three years,the proportion of participating in national training was 55.1%,the top three needs for capacity improvement were"communication","scientific research"and"assessment and application",accounting for 44.1%,38.1%and 30.9%,respectively.The results of x2test showed that there were differences in the training needs of"basic knowledge"among professional and technical personnel in different regions.There are differences in the training needs of"basic knowledge","communication","evaluation and application"and"scientific research"among professional and technical personnel with different titles.There were differences in the training needs of"basic knowledge","needs assessment","intervention implementation","communication","assessment and application"and"scientific research"among professional and technical personnel of different professions,and the above differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion There are strong needs for the ability improvement of professional technicians in China.In the future,hierarchical and classified training should be carried out for different regions,professional titles and specialties around the nine ability areas of health education.
