Mediating role of social anxiety among female college students'self-objectification and learning engagement
Objective To explore the relationship between self-objectification and learning engagement among fe-male college students,as well as the mediating role of social anxiety and moderating role of social support.Methods From October 28 to December 6,2022,an online survey was conducted on 1201 full-time female college students from 23 prov-inces,municipalities,and autonomous regions across the country selected by convenience sampling and snowball sampling.,and the subjects were assessed with Body Surveillance Subscale(BSS),Interaction Anxiousness Scale(IAS),Perceived So-cial Support Scale(PSSS)and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for Students(UWES-S).Non-parametric percentile bootstrap method based PROCESS macro was used to examine the mediating effect and moderating effect.Results Self-objectification had a significantly negative predictive effect on learning engagement(β=-0.537,P<0.001);Social anxiety played a mediating role in the relationship between self-objectification and learning engagement(β=-0.040,95%CI[-0.069,-0.017]);Social support moderated the first stage of mediating effect.Conclusion Self-objectification can predict fe-male college students'learning engagement directly,and also indirectly via the mediating role of social anxiety.Social sup-port moderates the relation between self-objectification and social anxiety.
