Mediating effect of hopelessness and depression symptoms on job satisfaction and occupational burnout among employees at a bank'a Guangxi branch
Objective To explore the mediating effects of hopelessness and depression symptoms between job sat-isfaction and job burnout among bank employees.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on total employees from a bank in Guangxi Province using cluster sampling.The content of questionnaire included the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire,Beck Hopeless Scale,Patient Health Questionnaire,and the Burnout Scale.Pearson partial correlation analysis and chained mediation model were used to analyze the data.Results The scores of job satisfaction,job burnout,despair and depression symptoms were(20.55±3.39),(36.09±12.51),(8.43±3.03)and(7.57±5.55),respectively.Pearson partial correlation analysis showed that hopelessness was positively correlated with depressive symptoms(r=0.557),job burnout was positively correlated with hopelessness(r=0.579)and depressive symptoms(r=0.640),and job satisfaction was negatively correlated with job burnout(r=-0.526),hopelessness(r=-0.439)and depressive symptoms(r=-0.480,P<0.05).Bootstrap test results showed that the mechanism of hopelessness and depressive symptoms between job satisfaction and job burnout was chain mediating effect.The mediating effect values of the three paths of job satisfaction→hopelessness →job burnout,job satisfaction→depressive symptoms→job burnout,job satisfaction→hopelessness→depres-sive symptoms→job burnout were-0.116(95%CI:-0.130--0.102),-0.112(95%CI:-0.125--0.097),-0.072(95%CI:-0.081--0.064),accounting for 22.14%,21.37%and 13.74%of the total effect,respective-ly.Conclusion Hopelessness and depressive symptoms showed chain mediating effect between job satisfaction and job burnout of bank employees.Therefore,in the future,it is suggested to reduce their job burnout,hopelessness and depres-sive symptoms for improving their job satisfaction among bank employees.
