Status of eye-care related health literacy among middle school students in four regions of China
Objective To understand the current status of eye care related health literacy and its impact on eye-re-lated lifestyle habits among middle school students,and to provide a reference basis for improving middle school students'visual health.Methods Using stratified whole group sampling method,a total of 1560 middle school students in four re-gions of China were selected for the questionnaire survey of eye care related health literacy,and ordered logistic regression was used to analyze the influence of eye care health literacy on middle students'eye-related life habits.Results The preva-lence of eye care health literacy among middle school students in four regions of China was 67.9%.The results of multifactor logistic regression analysis showed that the proportion of students who possessed eye care motivation(OR=1.564,95%CI:1.073-2.279)in terms of the average read number of extracurricular paper books per month was greater than that of junior high school students who did not possess it.A smaller proportion of students with eye care literacy(OR=0.686,95%CI:0.535-0.880)spent less time outdoors on average during the school day than school students without.A greater proportion of students with eye care health literacy(OR=1.721,95%CI:1.284-2.307)spent more average outdoor time on week-ends and vacations than students without.A smaller proportion of school students with eye care literacy(OR=0.622,95%CI:0.493-0.785)spent less outdoor time on average on weekends and vacations than students without.A smaller propor-tion of students with eye care health literacy(OR=0.676,95%CI:0.504-0.907)and eye care motivation(OR=0.704,95%CI:0.540-0.919)spent less time looking at electronic screens on average per day on weekends and vaca-tions than students who did not have it.A greater proportion of middle school students with eye care knowledge(OR=1.274,95%CI:1.009-1.609)and eye care skills(OR=1.446,95%CI:1.066-1.962)spent more average daily watching electronic screens time on weekends and vacations than middle school students who did not.Conclusion The level of eye care health literacy among middle school students needs to be further improved,and the level of eye care health litera-cy affects the choice of eye-related lifestyle habits among adolescents.
