Investigation on physical literacy of junior high school students in four regions of China
Objective To understand the current situation of physical literacy of junior high school students in Chi-na,and to provide reference for promoting the in-depth development of physical education of junior high school students and formulating effective intervention measures for their physical activities and physical quality.Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 1527 students from Cangzhou City of Hebei Province,Luzhou City of Sichuan Province,Pingshan District of Shenzhen City,and Haidong City of Qinghai Province in the first,second,and third grades of junior high school students to conduct on-site questionnaire surveys to investigate the physical literacy in four dimensions of knowledge,behavior,motivation,and skills.The x2 test and descriptive statistical analysis were performed using SPSS sta-tistical software to compare the differences and scores of physical literacy among junior high school students in different gen-ders,grades,and regions.Results The average score of physical literacy level of middle school students was(66.76±13.08)and the overall rate of physical literacy possession was 72.6%.The overall correct knowledge rate of physical litera-cy dimension was 86.98%.Middle school students'participation in sports skills was extensive,with higher mastery rate of physical training programs and lower mastery rates of water or snow and ice sports,traditional Chinese sports and gymnastics programs.In motivational physical literacy dimension,the score of identity regulation was the highest and the score of exter-nal regulation was the lowest.In behavioral dimensions,the percentage of occasional exercise was highest and the percentage of daily exercise was lowest.The percentages of possession in four physical literacy dimensions of knowledge,behavior,mo-tivation,and skills were 97.6%,52.0%,47.0%,and 41.6%,respectively.Conclusion The overall level of physical literacy of junior high school students in 4 regions of China is good,and the mastery of physical literacy knowledge is better than behavior,motivation and skills,showing a phenomenon of separation of knowledge and behavior.Targeted publicity,education and intervention programs should be formulated to effectively improve the physical literacy among junior high school students.
