The association analysis of health literacy level and drinking behavior among junior high school students in poverty-stricken areas of Jiangxi Province
Objective To explore the relationship between health literacy and drinking behavior among junior high school students in poverty-stricken areas(25 poverty-stricken counties)of Jiangxi Province,and to provide strategies for intervening drinking behavior in junior high school students.Methods In May 2023,a total of 5710 seventh-and eighth-grade students in 25 poverty-stricken counties in Jiangxi Province were surveyed on health literacy and drinking behavior by filling out questionnaires,and a stratified whole-cluster random sampling method was used.x2 test and logistic regression an-alyses were used to explore the associations between health literacy and their drinking behavior,and the test level was α=0.05.Results A total of 5710 junior high school students from 25 counties in Jiangxi Province were surveyed,and the numbers of students who used to drink was 791(13.85%),recently drank 359(6.29%),regularly drank 231(4.05%),used to be drunk 168(2.94%),respectively.Middle school students who did not have health behavioral liter-acy showed higher risk in ever drinking(OR=1.84,95%CI:1.554-2.178),recent drinking(OR=1.687,95%CI:1.326-2.147),frequent drinking(OR=1.931,95%CI:1.414-2.637),and ever drunken(OR=1.496,95%CI:1.051-2.129)compared to students who had health behavioral literacy.Conclusion There is an association between health literacy and drinking behaviors among junior high school students in poverty-stricken areas of Jiangxi Province,and the occurrence of drinking behaviors could be prevented and reduced by improving junior high school students'health behav-ioral literacy level.
