Currentstatus of self-management behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes and its influencing factors
Objective To understand the factors influencing self-management behaviors in patients with type 2 dia-betes mellitus(T2DM)and to provide scientific evidence for health education programs in diabetic patients. Methods A convenient sampling method was used to select some T2DM patients who underwent diabetes health management in four com-munity health service centers in Fujian Province for investigation.T-tests and analysis of variance(ANOVA)were employed to analyze the relationships between self-management scores and different characteristics of T2DM patients.Multivariate linear regression analysis was conducted to identify the main factors affecting the self-management behavior scores of T2DM pa-tients.Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships among self-management behavior, health informa-tion literacy, and disease perception. Results The mean self-management behavior score of T2DM patients was 35.57±15.77.Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that groups aged 45-59 years(B=-7.301),60-69 years(B=-9.758),and ≥70 years(B=-8.138),as well as educational levels of primary school(B=7.089),junior high school(B=10.643),senior high school/vocational high school/technical secondary school(B=17.796),college(B=15.167),and university or above(B=15.945),and perceived health status as"fair"(B=5.449)and"good"(B=10.238)were significant factors influencing self-management behavior(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed positive correlation between self-management behavior and health information literacy(r=0.597),and negative correlation between disease perception and health information literacy(r=-0.277,P<0.05).There was no significant correlation between disease perception and self-management behavior. Conclusion Educational level, age, and perceived health status are ma-jor factors influencing self-management behaviors, and there is positive correlation between health information literacy and self-management behavior.
