Current Situation and Experiences Gained in Building International Sanitary Points of Entry in China
The international sanitary points of entry refer to the designated ports, airports and ground crossings certified by the World Health Organization(WHO)in the public health core capacity, which represent the highest level of health and safety of points of entry in the world. This paper retrospected the origin and evolution of building international sanitary points of entry and analyzed their number and distribution in China.Based on the experiences gained in building Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport and Yiwu Airport into international sanitary airports, best practices were provided for other points of entry in China. At present, international sanitary points of entry account for a small proportion of all points of entry in China, with the majority in the eastern region, the minority in the western region, and few in the central or northeast region. And none of ground crossings has been built into an international sanitary ground crossing yet.It is suggested that points of entry in the central and the northeast China as well as first-class ground crossings should accelerate building speed, tap unique advantages, intensify inter-departmental communication and cooperation, strengthen core capabilities, and boost the export-oriented economy and urban development.
