Regulation of β-adrenergic receptors on cardiomyocyte calcium signaling
The heart pumps blood rhythmically to the entire body relying on the excitation-contraction coupling initiated by the calcium-induced calcium release process in cardiomyocyte.Sympathetic neurotransmitters bind with β-adrenergic receptors(βARs)to regulate cardiomyocyte calcium signaling as well as the contraction and relaxation function of the heart.Under pathological conditions, abnormal βAR and calcium signaling leads to heart diseases such as arrhythmia, heart failure and ischemia-reperfusion injury. Therefore, elucidating the βAR regulation of calcium signaling in cardiomyocytes is important for understanding heart disease mechanisms and for developing drug treatments.
