Meta-analysis of effectiveness and safety of Chinese medicine foot bath in essential hypertension
Objective To systematically evaluate the antihypertensive effect and adverse effects of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)foot bath in patients with essential hypertension. Methods The databases of CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,PubMed,collected the randomized controlled intervention study(RCT)of TCM foot bath for patients with essential hypertension, and the search time limit was until August 15,2023.According to the Cochrane systematic evaluation method, two evaluators independently screened the litera-ture and extracted the data according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and evaluated the included literature with the Cochrane risk assessment tool, and Meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan5.3 software. Results A total of 9 RCTs were included in 762 patients.Meta-analysis showed that TCM foot bath improved SBP(MD =-7.13,95%CI-8.10~-6.17,P<0.00001)and DBP(MD =-7.11,95%CI-10.04~-4.17,P<0.00001),antihypertensive effect is remarkable(OR =4.48,95%CI 2.30~8.72,P<0.00001),and no significant adverse effects. Conclusion The existing evidence shows that the traditional Chinese medicine foot bath method for treating essential hypertension has good effectiveness and safety, and can be used as a good auxiliary means.
