An applied study on functional movement screen combined with functional fitness in the elderly
Objective To evaluate and analyze the functional movement ability of the body of the general elderly population through the Functional Movement Screening(FMS)and Functional Fitness(FF)tests, and to explore the application of the FMS com-bined with the FF for exercise for health in the general elderly population. Methods Sixty-four older adults aged 60~70 years(28 males and 36 females)were tested with the FMS and three FF tests:sit-to-stand,chair flexion, and sit-to-stand-walk.Results The FMS scores of the elderly were generally low,and there was asymmetry in functional mobility between the two sides of the limbs,of which the most obvious difference was in the shoulder joint;the total FMS score of the females was slightly higher than that of the males, and the gender differences in the 2 movements of shoulder dexterity and straight-leg raising were more significant;the FF val-ues of the females were lower than those of the males, and their chair flexion was significantly better than those of the males, and there was a strong positive correlation between FMS and FF,but FMS and FF had no significant correlation with each other. However, the overall correlation between FMS and FF was not strong. Conclusion The FMS combined with the FF can form a more complete understanding of human movement and substantially improve the accuracy of functional mobility assessment. It is recommended to use the combined assessment of FMS and FF before exercise in the elderly to better improve the science of exercise and give full play to the anti-aging effect of exercise.
