A case-control study on poor blood pressure control in elderly hypertensive patients
Objective To explore the related risk factors of poor blood pressure control in elderly hypertensive patients, and to provide targeted strategies for the health management of elderly hypertensive patients. Methods A case-control study was conduc-ted,selecting elderly hypertensive patients as the research subjects who were hospitalized in the Cardiology Department of the First People's Hospital of Shaoguan City from September to December 2023,at the same time, the questionnaire surveys were conducted and the physical examinations were recorded. The case group consists of individuals whose blood pressure was not well controlled, with systolic blood pressure ≥140mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90mmHg.The control group consists of individuals with blood pressure within normal range, with systolic blood pressure<140mmHg and diastolic blood pressure<90mmHg.A total of 163 cases were included in the case group, and were frequency-matched with 163 cases in the control group based on age(±3 years)and gender.Univariate and binary logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors influencing poor blood pressure control in eld-erly hypertensive patients in Shaoguan City. Results Binary logistic regression analysis showed that hypertension grades 2 and 3 were the risk factors for poor blood pressure control in elderly hypertensive patients.Factors such as normal sleep patterns, regular medication adherence, proper medication usage, intermittent or daily blood pressure monitoring, and regular physical examination were protective factors for poor blood pressure control in elderly hypertensive patients. Conclusion Maintaining good quality sleep, timely blood pressure monitoring and health examination, adhering to regular medication and proper medication usage can help patients ef-fectively control their blood pressure.
