Progress in the study of dietary supplements for the adjunctive treatment of hyperuricemia
Hyperuricaemia increases the risk of gout, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic disease in patients.Dietary supple-ments are widely used in healthy populations and patients with various diseases worldwide due to their safety and efficacy. This article summarizes epidemiological studies and clinical trials on the use of dietary supplements to reduce uric acid.It analyses the efficacy of five types of dietary supplements, including vitamins and pro-vitamins,minerals and trace elements, amino acids, botanicals and plant extracts, and other nutritional supplements,in the adjuvant treatment of hyperuricemia. The aim is to provide a reference for the safe and rational application of dietary supplements in patients with hyperuricemia. The study found that dietary supplements have a very broad application prospect for the prevention and adjuvant treatment of hyperuricemia. The use of phytochemicals and plant extracts,as well as probiotics and hydrogen-rich new dietary supplements in the adjuvant treatment of patients with hyperuricemia can help patients to better reduce uric acid level. However, only a few dietary supplements have entered clinical trials and most are still in the animal experimental stage.
