Objective To observe the effect of acupuncture combined with core stability training on the rehabilitation of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis(AIS).Methods This was a prospective study involving 102 AIS patients admitted to Zhengzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Orthopedics Hospital from April 2021 to October 2022.Based on the principle of randomization and control,they were randomly divided into the training group(51 cases)and combination group(51 cases)by computer grouping.Patients in both groups were given core stability training,and those in the combination group were additionally managed by acupuncture.All patients were followed up for one year after treatment.Rehabilitation progress,pain,spinal morphology,spinal function,and prognosis were compared.Results The mean time of single leg stance with eyes open and close was significantly longer in the combination group than that of training group,while the time of off-bed activity and length of stay were significantly shorter.The Cobb angle of the combination group after 7 and 14 days of treatment was significantly smaller than that of the training group.The spinal rotation angle was significantly smaller in the combination group than that of the training group.The Oswestry disability index(ODI)at 6 months and 12 months of follow-up was significantly lower in the combination group than that of training group.The Japanese orthopaedic association(JOA)score was(20.35±5.36)points VS(24.45±5.27)points significantly higher in the combination group than that of training group(21.44±5.32)points VS(18.45±3.29)points.As of the end of follow-up,the Scoliosis Research Society 22-Item(SRS-22)score of the combination group was(92.33±10.26)points significantly higher than that of the training group(87.45±10.27)points.The incidence of adverse prognosis was significantly lower in the combination group than that of training group(7.84%[4/51]VS 23.53%[12/51],P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture combined with core stability training can enhance the rehabilitation effect of AIS patients,presenting a positive significance in relieving pain,promoting the recovery of spinal morphology and function,and improving the prognosis of patients.
