Clinical study on transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation combined with multimodal analgesia for rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty
Objective To explore the rehabilitation effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation combined with multimodal analgesia on total knee arthroplasty. Methods 66 patients with knee osteoarthritis underwent total knee arthroplasty by the same surgical team were randomly divided into two groups using a random number table. The control group received a multimodal analgesia regimen, while the study group received additional transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation. The NRS score, pain threshold, and self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) score were evaluated, and complications and adverse events were recorded. Results There was no statistically significant difference in NRS scores between the two groups on postoperative day 1.Both groups showed significant improvement on postoperative day 7 and day 14.The NRS scores in the study group were significantly lower on postoperative day 7 (2.63±0.78)points and day 14 (1.25±0.64)points compared to the control group on postoperative day 7(3.88±0.83)points and day 14(2.73±0.65)points,with difference of statistical significance(P<0.05);The pain thresholds of both groups improved on postoperative days 7 and 14,with the study group outperforming the control group(P<0.05). The SAS scores of both groups improved on postoperative days 3,7,and 14,with the study group significantly lower than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of complications and adverse events between the two groups, indicating better safety. Conclusion The combination of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation and multimodal analgesia has significant rehabilitation effects on patients after total knee arthroplasty, with synergistic effects and good safety. It has clinical guidance value for postoperative rehabilitation of knee osteoarthritis.
