Advances in targeted non-surgical treatments for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis(AIS) is the most prevalent type of scoliosis, which is a three-dimensional spinal deformity easily manifested during the rapid growth phase of puberty.AIS not only imposes physiological impairments on motor abilities and internal organ functions, but also significantly impacts the self-image and psychological well-being.Given the crucial stage of height development, surgical intervention is only recommended to severe cases due to the high risk.Non-surgical treatments provide non-invasive or minimally invasive alternatives to effectively ameliorate spinal curvature, thus benefiting patients with mild-to-moderate scoliosis.Currently, multiple non-surgical approaches are available, including bracing, exercise therapy, electrical stimulation therapy, and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) methods.By adopting tailored strategies that address individual circumstances and potential triggers, and employing a combination of these methods, optimal outcomes can be achieved. This article provided a comprehensive review of the potential causes, presenting symptoms, and non-surgical treatment measures for AIS,aiming to provide a scientific basis for clinical prevention, treatment, and basic research.
