In this paper,by analyzing the applicable working conditions and advantages and disadvantages of common compensators at present,the pipeline expansion compensator for crossing complex terrain such as subsidence area is proposed.The pipeline expansion compensator can provide a certain amount of expan-sion compensation for the pipeline when geological disasters(such as subsidence and collapse of the pipe-line caused by hanging,flood erosion caused by floating pipe,etc.)occur in the region of the long-dis-tance pipeline,so as to eliminate or reduce the stress changes caused by pipeline deformation.Taking com-mon long-distance pipelines as an example,the maximum hanging span before and after using the pipeline expansion compensator is calculated and the maximum deflection is compared.The calculation and compar-ison results show that in the possible geological subsidence area,the allowable slope length can reach 64m and the distance between the slope support surface and the pipeline can reach 1.52m after the pipeline ex-pansion compensator is inserted into the pipeline,which can meet the flexible compensation of deformation stress of the pipeline when the actual geological disaster occurs and avoid the occurrence of pipeline fracture.
