Two harmless treatment methods for electrolytic manganese slag(EMR)from a manganese mine area in Hubei Province were explored through stabilization experiments and leaching experiments. The results of the stabilization experiment showed that the removal effect of quicklime on Mn2+and NH+4 in EMR was better than that of blast furnace slag, municipal sludge, and various phosphates.Only when the mass fraction of quicklime added was greater than 10%,could the mass concentration of Mn2+and NH+4 in EMR be reduced to below the standard limit. The highest stabilization efficiency reached 100% and 99.17%,respectively,while the pH of EMR would be higher than the standard limit. The results of the leaching experiment showed that after 5 days of leaching EMR with deionized water and citric acid as leaching agents, the mass concentrations of Mn2+and NH+4 in EMR were lower than the standard limit, and the highest removal rates of Mn2+and NH+4 were 99.95% and 99.49%,respectively,while ensuring that the pH of EMR was within the limit range.
