Dental Demineralization after Fixed Orthodontic Treatment in Chinese Population:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Objective Systematic evaluation of the dental demineralization after fixed orthodontic treatment in Chinese population. Methods Cross-sectional studies of the dental demineralization after fixed orthodontic treatment in Chinese population were searched in PubMed,EMbase,The Cochrane Library,CNKI,CBM,WanFang Data and VIP databases up to December 2021.After screening and methodological evaluation by two researchers,meta-analysis was performed on the included literatures using Stata 16.0 software. Results 25 literatures were included, including 2355 patients, with a total number of 29662 teeth.Meta-analysis results showed that the incidence of the dental demineralization was 51%[95%CI(46%,57%)].The incidence of demineralization in males and females was 49%[95%CI(38%,59%)]and 51%[95%CI(37%,65%)],respectively.The odds ratios(OR)value of demineralization between the both of genders was 0.94[95%CI(0.73,1.21),P=0.66].The rate of dental demineralization was 13%[95%CI(12%,14%)],the demineralization rate of maxillary and mandibular teeth were 16%[95%CI(13%,18%)]and 11%[95%CI(10%,12%)],respectively.The demineralization rate of different teeth was as the following:upper lateral incisor>upper central incisor>upper canine>lower premolars>lower lateral incisor=lower canine>lower central incisor=upper premolars>upper first molar=lower first molar. Conclusion The incidence and the rate of the dental demineralization may be considered as a high in the Chinese patients after fixed orthodontic treatment, but there was no significant sexual dimorphism in the incidence of the dental demineralization. The dental demineralization rate of maxillary anterior teeth was the highest through the permanent dentition. So the prevention and treatment for the dental demineralization of orthodontic treatment should be considered in the future.
