Analysis of the Causes of Root Canal Therapy Failure of 126 Mandibular Second Molars
Objective Analyze the causes of root canal therapy failure of mandibular second molars. Methods 126 patients(126 affected teeth)with root canal therapy failure of mandibular second molars who were hospitalized in the hospital from October 2017 to August 2021 were selected as the study objects. The clinical data of patients were analyzed retrospectively, and the reasons for the failure of root canal therapy of mandibular second molars were summarized. Results 48 of the 126 teeth were missing root canals,26 were underfilled,21 were overfilled;35 were not dense,2 roots were longitudinally fractured, and 9 crowns were fractured,15 crowns leaked, there were 3 instruments in the root canal separated,2 at the bottom,13 with poor access to the medullary cavity,17 root canals had steps, off sets and lateral penetrations. Conclusion The root canal system of the mandibular second molar is complicated, and the anatomical position is inconvenient to operate. There are many reasons for treatment failure, mainly including anatomical factors and iatrogenic factors. The emphasis is on prevention. For the teeth with treatment failure,a reasonable treatment plan should be taken based on relevant factors.
