Role of Basement Membrane Zone Damage in the Pathogenesis of Melasma
Melasma is an acquired pigmentation disease that often occurs in the exposed parts of the face.Management of melasma is highly challenging due to inconsistent treatment results and frequent relapses.Researchers have gradually realized that the damage of basement membrane zone(BMZ)may be an important pathogenesis of melasma.Herein,we collected the evidence of the damage of basement membrane zone in melasma,listed some methods of recovery the basement membrane zone.Our data suggest that ameliorating the basement membrane zone may be of great significance in the treatment of melasma and the prevention of recurrence.
