Effects of Top Pruning and Ethephon Spraying Treatment on the Seed and Chaff Yields of Industrial Hemp
In order to explore the agronomic measures to improve the seed and chaff yields of indus-trial hemp(Cannabis Sativa L.),field trial was carried out by using cv.Yunma 8 to study the effects of top pruning and ethephon treatments(0,100,200 and 400 mg/L)on seed and chaff yields. The results showed that top pruning treatment decreased the yield of seeds and chaff of female plant.Ethephon treat-ment significantly increased the number of female plants,as the sex ratio(female plants/male plants)raised from 1.04 to 1.60.With the increase of ethephon concentration, seed and chaff yields of female plants increased first and then decreased. The highest seed and chaff yields were obtained when the con-centration of ethephon treatment was 200 mg/L,i.e.2158.4 kg/hm2 and 1978.4 kg/hm2,respectively,which were higher than these of 0 mg/L treatment by 50.8% and 28.5%,respectively,and higher than these of 400 mg/L treatment by 283.5 kg/hm2and 549.0 kg/hm2,respectively.In addition, ethephon treat-ment showed feminization effect on male plant by inducing differentiate on female flowers and later seeds. The highest seed yield of male plants was obtained at 400 mg/L ethephon(910.5 kg/hm2)while the height chaff yield of male plants was obtained at 200 mg/L(427.5 kg/hm2).Combining the total yields of female and male plants, the highest seed yields were obtained at 400 mg/L ethephon treatment, while the highest chaff yields were obtained at 200 mg/L.
