GC-MS Analysis of Chemical Components of Essential Oil From the Leaves of Second Harvest of Apocynum venetum L.and Poacynum hendersonii(Hook.f.)Woods at Different Harvesting Periods
Using two types of Apocynum from Xinjiang as raw materials, organic solvent extraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)was employed to compare and analyze the differences in essential oil content and chemical composition of the leaves of second harvest Apocynum venetum L.and Poacynum hendersonii(Hook.f.)Woods at different harvesting periods. The peak area normalization method was used to determine the types of components and their relative contents. The es-sential oil content of the second harvest Poacynum hendersonii(Hook.f.)Woods leaves was significantly higher than that of the second harvest Apocynum venetum L.leaves.There were significant differences in the extraction rate, component types, and component quantities of the essential oils from the leaves of the two types of Apocynum at different harvesting periods, with the highest content of essential oil found in the second harvest Poacynum hendersonii(Hook.f.)Woods leaves in October. Both types of second harvest Apocynum leaves and the essential oils from different harvesting periods were found to contain high levels of Phytol,Neophytadiene,3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-2-hexadecen-1-ol,2,4-di-tert-butylphenol,and N-hexadecanoic acid. The leaves of second harvest Poacynum hendersonii(Hook.f.)Woodsare suitable for medicinal use, while the leaves of second harvest Apocynum venetum L.are more suitable for the cosmetics in-dustry,with the optimal harvesting period for the former being September and the latter being October.
