Research Progress on Endophytic Fungal Diversity and Metabolites of Medicinal Plants
Endophytic fungi in plants refer to fungi that live within the various tissues and organs of healthy plants during certain or all stages of their life cycle. Medicinal plants are the main source of natu-ral bioactive products, and their endophytic fungi not only produce metabolites that are identical or simi-lar to those of the plants, but also generate new metabolites with unique structures and biological activi-ties. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the influence of host species, colonization sites, habitat, and geographical origins on endophytic fungi community structure in medicinal plants. Addition-ally,the diversity of endophytic fungi, metabolites and bioactivities in medicinal plants discovered in re-cent years is reviewed. It aims to promote the research related to medicinal plant endophytic fungi and their metabolites. Furthermore, this paper explores the potential applications of their metabolites with re-spect to antibacterial,anti-inflammatory,anti-cancer properties and other fields.
