Effects of saphenous nerve radiofrequency thermocoagulation combined with intra-articular ozone injection in treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis
Objective:To investigate effects of saphenous nerve radiofrequency thermocoagulation combined with intra-articular ozone injection in treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 110 patients with knee osteoarthritis admitted to this hospital from January 2022 to February 2023.They were divided into study group and control group according to the random number table method,55 cases in each. The control group was treated with intra-articular injection of ozone, while the study group was treated with saphenous nerve radiofrequency thermocoagulation on the basis of that of the control group. The clinical efficacy, the knee function indexes[visual analogue scale(VAS)score,Lysholm knee function scale(LKS)score, knee joint range of motion],the serum inflammatory factors[matrix metalloproteinase-3(MMP-3),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and interleukin-1β(IL-1β)]levels before and after the treatment, and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate of the study group was 94.55%(52/55),which was higher than 81.82%(45/55)of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the LKS score and the knee joint range of motion of the study group were higher than those of the control group, the VAS score and serum IL-1β,MMP-3 and TNF-α levels were lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Saphenous nerve radiofrequency thermocoagulation combined with intra-articular ozone injection is effective in the treatment of the patients with knee osteoarthritis, which can effectively reduce the joint pain, reduce the levels of inflammatory factors, and improve the joint function and the joint range of motion. Moreover,it is superior to single intra-articular ozone injection alone.
