Comparison of effects of small incision extracapsular cataract extraction and phacoemulsification in treatment of patients with hard nuclear cataract
Objective:To compare effects of small incision extracapsular cataract extraction and phacoemulsification in treatment of patients with hard nuclear cataract. Methods:The clinical data of 90 patients with hard nucleus cataract admitted to this hospital from October 2022 to October 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different surgical methods, they were divided into control group and observation group,45 cases in each group. The control group was treated with phacoemulsification, while the observation group was treated with small incision extracapsular cataract extraction. The tear film function[tear film break-up time(BUT),tear secretion test(STT)],the corneal injury[corneal thickness, corneal fluorescence staining(FL)score],the visual acuity, and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. Results:Three days after the surgery, the BUT,STT values and the corneal thickness of the two groups were lower than those before the surgery, but those of the observation group were larger than those of the control group;the FL scores of the two groups were higher than those before the surgery, but that in the observation group was lower than that in the control group;and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Three months after the surgery, the visual acuity levels of the two groups were higher than those before the surgery, that of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Further,the incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was 8.89%(4/45),which was lower than 35.56%(16/45)in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:Small incision extracapsular cataract extraction is effective in the treatment of the patients with hard nuclear cataract. It can improve the visual acuity, reduce the impact on tear film and corneal function, and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications. Moreover, the effect and the safety are better than ultrasonic emulsification.
