Effects of recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor eye drops combined with Polyethylene glycol eye drops in treatment of patients with dry eyes after cataract surgery
Objective:To observe effects of recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor eye drops combined with Polyethylene glycol eye drops in treatment of patients with dry eyes after cataract surgery. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 72 patients with dry eyes after cataract surgery admitted to the hospital from April 2020 to October 2022.According to the random number table method, they were divided into control group and observation group,36 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Polyethylene glycol eye drops, while the observation group was treated with recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor eye drops on the basis of that of the control group. Both groups were treated for 1 month. The clinical efficacy, the levels of corneal endothelial cell function indexes(corneal endothelial cell density, corneal endothelial cell area variation coefficient),the tear film breakup time(BUT),the Schirmer test(SIT)level, the oxidative stress indexes[lipid peroxide(LPO),malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD)],and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after the treatment. Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 94.44%(34/36),which was higher than 75.00%(27/36)of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the corneal endothelial cell area variation coefficient in the observation group was smaller than that in the control group, the corneal endothelial cell density was larger than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of BUT and SIT in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of MDA and LPO in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, the level of SOD was higher than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor eye drops combined with Polyethylene glycol eye drops in the treatment of the dry eye patients after cataract surgery can improve the total effective rate of treatment and the levels of BUT and SIT,improve the function of corneal endothelial cells, and reduce the oxidative stress. Moreover,it is superior to single Polyethylene glycol eye drops treatment.
