Effects of Dapagliflozin combined with Metformin in treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Objective:To observe effects of Dapagliflozin combined with Metformin in treatment of elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 96 elderly patients with T2DM admitted to the hospital from March 2021 to April 2023.According to the random number table method, they were divided into observation group and control group,48 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Metformin, while the observation group was treated with Dapagliflozin on the basis of that of the control group. Both groups were treated for 12 weeks. The clinical efficacy, the blood glucose indexes[fasting blood glucose(FPG),2 h postprandial blood glucose(2hPG),glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)]levels,the inflammatory indexes[homocysteine(Hcy),interleukin-6(IL-6),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),C-reactive protein(CRP)]levels, the oxidative stress indexes[malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)]levels,and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after the treatment. Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.75%(45/48),which was higher than 79.17%(38/48)of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of FPG,2hPG and HbA1c in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of CRP,Hcy,IL-6 and TNF-α in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the level of MDA in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the levels of SOD and GSH-Px were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Dapagliflozin combined with Metformin in the treatment of the elderly patients with T2DM can improve the total effective rate of treatment, reduce the levels of blood glucose indexes and inflammatory factors, and improve the levels of oxidative stress indexes. Moreover,it is superior to single Metformin treatment.
