Clinical effects of Nd:YAP laser combined with subgingival scaling and root planing in treatment of patients with chronic periodontitis
Objective:To observe clinical effects of Nd:YAP laser combined with subgingival scaling and root planing(SRP)in treatment of patients with chronic periodontitis. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 80 patients with chronic periodontitis admitted to the hospital from April 2021 to March 2023.They were divided into study group and control group by using the random number table method,40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with SRP,while the study group was treated with Nd:YAP laser on the basis of that of the control group. The clinical efficacy and the levels of periodontal index[probing depth(PD),gingival bleeding index(BI)and plaque index(PLI)],breath index[oral volatile sulfides(VSCs)]and gingival crevicular fluid inflammatory factors[tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-8(IL-8)and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)]were compared between the two groups before and after the treatment. Results:The total effective rate of treatment in the study group was 95.00%(38/40),which was higher than 77.50%(31/40)in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the scores of PD,BI and PLI in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of VSCs in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, those in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Further,after the treatment, the levels of TNF-α,IL-8 and hs-CRP in gingival crevicular fluid in the study group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:Nd:YAP laser combined with SRP in the treatment of the patients with chronic periodontitis can reduce the periodontal index and the breath index levels as well as the gingival crevicular fluid inflammatory factor levels. Moreover,it is superior to single SRP treatment.
