Effects of Propranolol combined with Methimazole in treatment of patients with hyperthyroidism
Objective:To observe effects of Propranolol combined with Methimazole in treatment of patients with hyperthyroidism.Methods:The clinical data of 70 patients with hyperthyroidism admitted to this hospital from January 2020 to September 2023 were retrospectively analyzed.According to different treatment methods,they were divided into control group and observation group,35 cases in each group.The control group was treated with Methimazole,while the observation group was treated with Propranolol on the basis of that of the control group.The levels of thyroid hormone indexes[free triiodothyronine(FT3),free thyroxine(FT4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)],heart rate,and adrenocortical hormone indexes[cortisol(Cor),adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH)]before and after the treatment,and the incidence of adverse reactions during the treatment were compared between the two groups.Results:After 3 months of treatment,the levels of FT3 and FT4 in the observation group were lower than those in the control group,the TSH level was higher than that in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).At 3 months of treatment,the heart rate levels of the two groups were lower than those before the treatment,that in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).At 3 months of treatment,the serum Cor level in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the ACTH level was lower than that in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:Propranolol combined with Methimazole in the treatment of the patients with hyperthyroidism can improve the levels of thyroid hormone indexes and adrenal cortical hormone indexes,and reduce the heart rate.Moreover,it is superior to single Methimazole treatment.
