Effects of straight wire arch correction technique in treatment of children with dental malformations during mixed dentition period
Objective:To observe effects of straight wire arch correction technique in treatment of children with dental malformations during mixed dentition period. Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 76 children with dental malformations during the mixed dentition who were treated in Pingdingshan stomatological hospital from July 2020 to July 2022.They were divided into study group(n=38)and control group(n=38)by using the random number table method. The control group was treated with stainless steel wire correction technique, while the study group was treated with straight wire arch correction technique. The clinical efficacy, the gingival crevicular fluid alkaline phosphatase(ALP)level before and after the treatment, the masticatory efficiency, the parental satisfaction, and the incidence of complications 3 months after the treatment were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate of the study group was 97.37%(37/38),which was higher than 78.95%(30/38)of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the levels of ALP in gingival crevicular fluid of the two groups were higher than those before the treatment, but that in the study group was lower than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment, the masticatory efficiency levels of the two groups were higher than those before the treatment, that of the study group was higher than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The scores of the parental satisfaction such as overall aesthetics, tooth shape and occlusion in the study group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Further,the incidence of complications in the study group was 5.26%(2/38),which was lower than 23.68%(9/38)in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:Straight wire arch correction technique can improve the total effective rate, the masticatory efficiency and the parental satisfaction, and reduce the gingival crevicular fluid ALP level, and the incidence of complications in the children with dental malformation during the mixed dentition. Moreover,it is superior to stainless steel wire correction technique treatment.
