Effects of acupuncture combined with visual training on children with amblyopia
Objective:To observe effects of acupuncture combined with visual training on children with amblyopia.Methods:A prospective study was conducted on 60 children with amblyopia admitted to the hospital from 2019 to 2022.They were divided into observation group and control group according to the random number table method,30 cases in each group.The control group was treated with visual training,while the observation group was treated with acupuncture on the basis of that of the control group.The treatment lasted continuously for 24 weeks.The clinical efficacy,the visual acuity indexes[uncorrected visual acuity,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)]levels,the eye function indexes(amplitude of accommodation,stereoacuity)levels,the social anxiety[social anxiety scale for children(SASC)]score,the self-esteem[coping self-efficacy scale(CSES)]score before and after the treatment,and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 92.98%(53/57),which was higher than 80.00%(44/55)of the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment,the uncorrected visual acuity and BCVA levels of the observation group were higher than those of the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment,the level of accommodative amplitude in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the level of stereoacuity was lower than that in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After the treatment,the SASC score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group,the CSES score was higher than that of the control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).However,there were no obvious adverse reactions in the two groups during the treatment.Conclusions:Acupuncture combined with visual training in the treatment of the children with amblyopia can improve the total effective rate of treatment,the visual acuity index levels and the self-esteem scores,improve the levels of eye function indexes,and reduce the social anxiety scores.Moreover,it is superior to single visual training treatment.
